Monterey is awesome, with the fog rolling in, all the beautiful ocean scenery, and also was out there when butterflys came home to molt or whatever they do there in Carmel :)Bob

Scenery-wise and outdoor opportunities-wise, these are amazing areas for a vacation, and probably vacation rentals, once the majority of the pot trade fades. 

I decided my family needed a change of scenery and latitude!

I have a client who is qualified for $250,000 she's looking for a condo by the water in San Diego she doesn't mind if it's a one bedroom but would like two bedrooms, and a patio with lots of scenery the HOA's can't be any higher than 260.

She had been accepted into graduate school where she would study to become a Physician Assistant and we were both in need of new scenery.

College kids, outdoor enthusiast, great scenery.  

If you enjoy the food and beer scene in Portland than I think you'll find Asheville is nice and you'd get some seasons and beautiful scenery.  

Now, I didn't want to unnecessarily bring back Mexico into this conversation but it's illustrating my point so well.But again, if you buy mainly for lifestyle, you shouldn't care too much about that and you might be happy to enjoy the scenery of 1-lane Costa Rican roads.

Combined with a growing population, lower than average cost of living, inexpensive yet quality schools, a solid job market, and beautiful scenery nearby have made me realize the importance of considering various different aspects for future rental opportunities.
