I do think that in many cases pool fences ruin the aesthetic and the Airbnb pictures so I'm sure that's why some hosts are cutting corners.

These days as you mention with STR almost everything can be handled remotely...cleaning, painting, locksmith, yard care, even drive by pictures of the house occasionally or internal pictures too. 

I took a picture of the hours for my own reference and get chastised by the employee for taking a photo, which is "not allowed at government facilities"....Enough of the rant,  fellow Illinoisans or else where any tips on how to work on government time while trying to hit closing deadlines. 

You can point out spots like nail holes where they hung pictures, dirty spots in the apartment needing cleaning, blown outlets they are overusing, etc.

If you think you might go after them in the future send the pictures to a handyman and ask for a quote to fix all problems.

I have a house where the information bubble (assessment, stats, value) is a house two blocks away, even shows a street view picture.

.- Build Relationships with Vendors: Getting quotes from local contractors or vendors for common maintenance or repair tasks can give you a clearer picture of recurring costs.

Always smart to see the bigger picture and future cash flow potential!
