Dick - I'll leave it to the pros to answer that one.UPDATE: Upon closer inspection, there are several important additional problems here. 1 - There is a step on part of the slab that is far taller than code allows. 2 - The main steps to my path are not perpendicular to the slab on the sides.3 - The grooves that were put into the patio for cracking aren't even close to being perpendicular to the structure of the house.4 - The staircase coming down from the house and the other step, as well as the landing in front of my door are on an incline.

If it's an unfinished basement that you have access to, then it wouldn't be as difficult.Generally structural walls run perpendicular to your roof joists.

I am planning to open up kitchen a little but. the house is a brick ranch built in 50s. the joists run perpendicular to the studs I plan to take out. the red lines are the way the joist are running from one wall to the other. the blue crosses depict studs I plan to eliminate. do you think any of the studs are load bearing ?

The house sits at the end of a t-junction where a the road perpendicular to the one our house is on terminates, but it’s not directly across, and there is no alley or unowned or unused property nearby.

It’s hard to tell from the photo but one of the openings you can see the upper floor joists running perpendicular to the wall that was removed.

I then check the front of the house to see if its level, the back of the house, and all sides, using this level i check to see if the windows are perpendicular to the house or if they are off center.
