I don't know anything about the South Dakota market but if your home is in an appreciating area, I would lean towards keeping it. 

It is quite common to conduct a move-out assessment for damages and apply the costs against the security deposit (SD).

Some type of house hacking/str scenario—- idk if Orange county or SD is even realistic to consider house hacking w what above equity can pull, given such high price of homes.

The MTR industry has bit of a pull back but if you are priced well and your tenants are not putting much out for a SD than maybe look at the property features then.

I intend to relocate to the Rapid City, SD region in April/May for work, and I plan to acquire a primary residence that could eventually be transformed into an investment property.

I'm pretty sure it had to record to an SD card but this was 8-10 years ago, and I'd be shocked if they didn't have cloud recording models today.
