Almost all of those reasons found to be more of perceptions rather reality.  

And being a precision machinist mean you are competent--you not only have the skills to do what you want, but skills that your employer and society really value.That is awesome!

From what society tells us (since I don't know from personal experience), your day job will keep you very busy and thus actively managing a portfolio will be pretty difficult.

In life generally, I think that too many people drift about without a concrete idea of what they want their life to be like, and find disappointment around their mid-life (hence the mid-life crisis) when they realize that they left their dreams and desires on the way-side to pursue what society has deemed to be stable and successful (9-5-ers).

I don't know anything about College Park, but my perception is that it's a different market altogether than Buckhead.Having said that, I would never, ever buy a condo for investment, anywhere, any time.

For example, the IRS may tell you that carpet lasts 12 years while the American Society of Home Inspectors might tell you 15 - 20.I prefer to use HUD Guide to life expectancy.Even still, this doesn't mean carpet will wear out and have to be replaced every 5-7 years.

I am with you and would never even consider a suite, it isn't right and is one of the major contributors to the deteriorating social standards in your society.
