Bad neighbors are just like bordering a busy street, they are there forever!

Here's a quick run down...My father purchased a ranch property back in the last boom.Purchased for about 1.5 Million.It's a horse property and one of the borders had an issue with us and to get back at us sent out Building and Safety.We come to find out that the property was purchased with the idea that all 2000 + Sq ft of residence was legal, we come to find out only 900 + Sq ft is legal, not even the pool is legal.They want us to bring everything up to code and draw up new plans reflecting such.Our realtor says we have a great case and can sue the previous owner, what can happen in this case has anyone ever experienced something like this?

There often are residences that are next to commercial areas and which fall under commercial zoning but aren't used that way.If your zoning map is online check out other residences bordering this street.

So now I'm looking at 3 separate houses on the same street, different addresses, and 2/3 bordering each other.

I can use guidance in choosing a target city in Northwest Indiana, referrals to assemble my team (especially a very well qualified real estate CPA), and to let me know of local meet-ups near the southwest suburbs of Chicago where there are robust discussions regarding investing over the border in Indiana.

I then changed my strategy to make sure I was taken into account properties in arrears that were the border of "war zone"
