Soooo do respond...the $30k remodel could increase the value of your property more than that value (or even less that the investment); here's a blog from a Sacramento Appraisal Service on this topic:  https://sacramentoappraisalblo...And, yes, your taxes will go up but it won't be significant if you respond; you might offer that the remodel wasn't an option as what was there was obsolete/inoperable/whatever.

For example, if you're building a new home in a current (or future, once designated) UEP area it wouldn't make sense to pay to install well and septic when those systems will become obsolete soon after the city utilities come through your neighborhood.

If you do buy a property in Bayonne at that price point it will also be a small property, possibly functionally obsolete and far away from the light rail so rents will be on the lower side, also because properties in NJ tend to be really old, there will be loads of weird quirks and extra repairs that will dampen your return.

I also think the type of labor FoxConn brings will be obsolete down the road as efficiency will take over through robotics and the cost of having all those employees won't make sense.

Today the latest-tech workers are driving up home prices and forcing out the non-tech and obsolete-tech middle class workers like myself (I got my engineering degree using the slide rule because electronic calculators hadn't been invented yet).I'm OK with that change.
