For us it has woods, acerage, picturesque cottage with stone fireplace. 

When a heat pump can't keep up with the outside temperature and using a fireplace or wood stove is not an option, I usually use infrared space heaters that have a thermostat. 

We've had this done on brick fireplaces, it looks great and the cost was minimal.

I know some of the newer ones are bi-level or super-expensive condo style, but mine was more of an artist loft. the people upstairs had a nice fancy place with exposed brick inside and a fireplace and they paid more for it. mine was simple, white, clean, and very artist-oriented with separate rooms and windows in between the rooms like little art showrooms.

The only good thing was there was a fireplace in the living room that added to the value of the rehabbed house.

to put slate over an ugly brick fireplace and man-o-man it stuck well....but brick is porous.  

The roof, hardwood flooring, windows, gas fireplace, and water heater are all new as of late 2014.The best thing I think, is that I have a closer working relationship with the owner already as he is my landlord who is retiring, and I have been renting this place from him for the past year, so I definitely know it pretty well.

Or flicker the orange for a fireplace effect. 

But as the house is coming along, the fireplace looms large!
