It took me 20 yrs to do RE full time and not by choice-forced 2 yrs ago by a layoff.

I'm taking over the accounting firm and that is where I work full time (six days a week, 12+ hours a day so I'm VEEEEEEEERY productive) but I'd ultimately like to do RE developing and investing full time.

I wanted to do RE for years but simply had no idea of where to get started.

You want to do RE?

If you can be deemed a real estate "professional" (some rules involved here, but you need to do RE 750 hours a year and generally can't have another full-time job -- or your spouse can also qualify if they're on title to the property), then you're not subject to this 25k passive loss limitation.

Also I'm not sure about the "he said-she said" claim that Cris doesn't actively do RE any more.

Now I just say that I do RE projects.

Unless you are planning to do RE full time, or plan to purchase/sell enough to offset the cost, it may not be worth it. 

To me:1)  you are just fine if you have a 401k and don't do RE.
