She withheld 4 months of rent over a stove repair?

hello, I just received an text message from my landlord stating i have to pay the deductible, due to when my kitchen caught on fire when i was frying french fries, it was't major damages, only to the stove and microwave and these were mines and i replaced that, they only had to paint the kitchen walls they werent burnt just the black stuff from the smoke and we cleaned the walls, but they told us not to clean the walls and asked us to stop. they cabinets are what got just a little burnt mainly the cabinet over the stove, however she still hasnt replaced the cabinets. can she do this i'm from winston salem nc.

Sometimes the old stoves or fireplaces had asbestos sheets around them.

They had also run out of oil for the furnace, so the stove was open and on to heat the place.

The stove had one working burner, cabinet bottoms were rotted out because of a slow leak that was resolved, etc.

As soon as they asked about a multi-year lease without even seeing the house.Major red flag.My experience with applicants who are ready to negotiate or sign on the dotted line without even seeing if their stuff will fit in the apartment, or look at how big the closets are or what kind of stove it had or if it has a shower and/or tub, or where they can set up their home office, etc., etc. - those are people who are ready to take anything.  

When I had to sell, I ended up eating features that no one but me cared about - 2x6 walls, upgraded insulation, downdraft stoves, etc.
