I have read about false bids to inflate the price and such but was able to confirm with this particular sale that all competing bids were local investors/realtors that wanted the duplex.  

That ir is absurd, unless she hasn't done a refi since 1989.

I've had several quotes, most of them for the bottom of the barrel shingles with terrible reviews and class action settlements, with absurd prices, especially the ones that know I have a few properties...They wanted to charge me 12K for CertainTeed or IKO shingles known for their issues, with a one year warranty (one had 10 year warranties). 

NYC hates landlords and that is a fact when you get a $300 fine for having a dirty sidewalk or $5000 violation for being falsely reported by the DoB.

Going back to Matty M's comments with the fractional reserve bankins system, you can create value and destroy value by creating false money by making loans.
