That said you can greatly alleviate that with good screening, and the higher price point that these types of units can demand should help filter out the deadbeats.

Most hard money lenders will want to know about your track record - if you have no experience, partnering with someone who has a track record will likely be an easier path to approval (and likely higher leverage) than applying by yourself. 

Close to a cool little town, close to an area attraction, etc....Also do a search here and see how to screen guests, in addition to what the hosting sites do.... like no last minute bookings, no short stays....

However, they can deduct the interest they pay to you as part of the seller-financed agreement—if the loan is secured by the property and you provide them with a Form 1098 (Mortgage Interest Statement) for their records.
