Get your paperwork ready and get prequalified - start by having coversations with lenders and ASK ANY QUESTION you have (don't worry if you think it doesn't sound "smart") so that you get familiar with language terms and common questions they have.

It does run into the plain language of the Treasury Regulations 1.469-1 which contains this definition:Period of customer use.

You just have to learn to read the language and carefully study the photos.

They are drafted in such a neutral way that parties have to go to court (or mediation) even when one party has no legal ground to stand on.The contract language here essentially requires either (a) joint instructions, (b) court order, or (c) 2 years of inactivity with neither of the above occurring. 

Many offices require a photo ID on file in case something happens (fraud, sexual assault, murder, abusive language or behavior, etc.).  

It's just I came into this with a background as a classroom teacher and high-stakes language exam coach and I really didn't understand the immense help that my experience managing the student-teacher relationship has given me in learning how to manage the landlord-tenant relationship.I also had no clue how much of a leg up that same experience had taught me to deal on a personal basis with public officials such as magistrates, code enforcement officials, court clerks, and of course law enforcement officials, here in PA most notably our state constables.The last thing that really helped has nothing to do with me.

Depends on your local rules and regulations, but in the state of Virginia such a practice is perfectly lawful.PS: Do not take model legal language and incorporate it into your contract unless such language comes from an attorney. 

Its not hard to see that in addition to having little clue in regards to real estate, there could also be language barriers.
