A home that I rented had a bathtub along the outer wall of the 2nd floor.

Simple tasks such as hanging blinds, recaulking a bathtub, changing light bulbs.

He had it listed for $27k, I went in for another friend of mine to give him an estimate for a rental remodel and I think we were under $22k total for the remodel for the roof, new paint, refinishing hardwood floors, upgrading kitchen, bathtub surrounds, vanity, debris removal, landscape work, etc.

Then painting is another couple thousand and that has to be done.  2 bathtub refinishes is about 900.   

I have bought everything from appliance packages & Air Spa bathtubs to light switches and door knobs online, and everything in between.I haven't targeted local yet, but need to.  

So I got to Lowe's and realized, "Wow... how do I know what price of light fixtures, doors, sinks, windows, bath tubs, roofing material, etc... do I write down?

You run that down the bathtub drain, twirl it around a little bit, and pull it out.

.- In terms of materials prices, go spend an afternoon in Home Depot, and get a feel for how much things cost -- everything from lights to faucets, to sheetrock to bathtubs to doors to windows.

Just curious, with all respect due to the trade, could one take some excel files with floor plans, and perhaps fixtures(cabinets, stove, bathtub, etc) laid out in the plans, to Home Depot, Lowes or Menards, and would they do the same, put it in a CAD/3D type of format, for free?
