In a hot market, the unobtainable thing is the most valuable.

I have gotten inquiries about a slow cooker or an air fryer even. 

Our house down there is the same way, with a metal roof, open air, then a concrete floor or roof above our 2nd floor living quarters. 

I think broader consumer taste is killing malls, which includes online shopping, but also even where people are choosing to live and how they are spending their time/money, more broadly.I worked for a company that bought a failing mall back in 2012 (online shopping was "killing retail" then too), redeveloped most of it into more open air power center and sold.  

From the little I know of San Antonio (I am a wholesaler who specializing in selling STRs nationwide) its not a super hot Airbnb market but the amount you expect for rent sounds pretty conservative. 

Affordable housing is RED-hot at this time, especially if it's decent 3br+ housing sub $2k.   

Outside Lisbon/Oporto/Coimbra (very hot markets) probably 570€/month on a 3 bedroom condo would be a B level medium rent income.As always, this is theory only, I have no real experience.

I feel better now, but perhaps I should start looking for a lawyer who can help on the matter of the tenant taking in her mother without my permission and they having walled in the deck with heavy curtains, which impedes air circulation, etc.  

It might be worth talking to a lawyer but not sure if it's small claims or worth it.Also, you might already have all of these things but for future prevention:- smart thermostat (so you receive alerts when the inside temperature dips below whatever preset you have)- Minut (or similar device) would also alert you to the inside (and outside) temperatures; for example, I have 2 devices inside the house and outside on the hot tub deck.

The beach access limitations have been a hot topic for investors, and it’s definitely something to dig into if you’re considering the area.
