Recently, management changed it so both loans can be made with one payment versus two separate transactions.

It's your books to report how you want, and to me it's not not illegal at all to do what you are doing.

There is no pitching of any programs, coaching, books, etc.

Ben Franklin used similar advice to turn an enemy into a friend (although his was asking to borrow a book).There are some caveats here, you cannot be wasting time thus you need to demonstrate that you are taking action. 

A good accountant can determine how to account for the 70k received in the best tax advantaged way that makes sense for the transaction.
