I am calling this "off topic" since it is really basically me asking: Since the big STR platforms charge vacationers so darned much for cleaning, service fees, pets, host fees, etc. etc. etc. etc., where could one go to find a low-add-on-fee vacation rental that didn't come too close to Craigslist or a venue that has no Q.A.?

Vacationers may pay $200 a night or $6,000 a month for the same home.However, you have to factor in all the expenses: furnishings, consumables (tp, coffee, soap, etc.), marketing, taxes (8% in Atlanta), utilities including WiFi, landscaping, reservation fees, and more.

Because it was on a lake, we were able to enjoy it while we rehabbed it and also pulled in some revenue by renting it to vacationers.

IF more people use long term furnished rentals as a primary housing solution, THEN people don't have the traditional "Community" anchored in neighborhood friendships, therefore the furnished rentals that have multiple units or shared common spaces where interaction with other "digital nomads" / "slow vacationers" will be able to get a premium price.  3.
