I'm about to go back to school and won't have a job but i'm looking into investing in homes in the south east suburbs of the Chicago area, near the city.

Hello BP,My name is Travis and I’m located in Southeast Louisiana.

There are tons of markets in southeast Michigan (if that's the area you're interested in) that are not Detroit.

I plan on continuing to purchase small multi family units throughout the South East (primarily FL). 

It’s located on southeast of Chicago.

@Brian Garrett the easy days of finding markets like that are over.  5 years ago they were everywhere. 3 years ago they were everywhere in the Southeast. 3 years ago they were everywhere in the midwest.

However I have one exception, I work on the south east side, so anything around there works for me too (like the historic south side).I look forward to hearing from you.

If you’re interest in the Southeast, Birmingham might be an area to check out.

Like a lot of folks on here I'm sure, I've stretched the search to surrounding states, then to the Midwest, Northwest, Southwest, Southeast, back to NJ and then back around again.
