As I step off my soap box (sorry for getting so worked up), let me add that being an activist landlord in low income neighborhoods is the most profitable position to operate from.

And those people living in C often are less able or willing to root out the criminal activity to keep their area from sliding.

I think the root of the problem is that the gurus who teach this stuff are rarely out there practicing it or bothering to look into all the legality behind it.

I do buy some things at Menards out of neccesity like ABS parts and Sprecher's root beer...which indecently is the best root beer on the planet.

Is dish soap really all I need to do?

Try washing a door with Murphy's oil soap and see if it look more "new", or "new enough" to re-use, and maybe think about just working with the cherry or whatever color the manufacturer put on.Also if the cabinets are not luxury to start with, the finish probably won't make them so, as because as others have said, they lack the special slow close drawers, dovetails, special cabinets, wine rack, moldings, etc... 

When people feel a strong attachment to their city, they are more likely to invest in its future, including purchasing homes and putting down roots.
