As a previous poster mentioned, you might have to paint the walls, ceiling and trim with Killz to remove the smell. 

Ok,here in Southern California we enjoy Medium Grey exteriors with Creamy white trim and something bold for the front door like Crimson red or darker blue.Also beige with white trim is common.Interiors should be light and bright with lighter soft grey walls with white kitchen cabinets and grey counter tops.Sandy light beige with dark cabinets for homes with beige exteriors.Bathrooms can be more colorful with light yellows or sage green or even light blue with shower tiles and toilet lid covers to match( think Bed Bath and Beyond).

(All my other rentals are OOS) The reason I do this is because it’s a shower unit with a low lip so the curtain has to be fitted into a curved guide and “clipped” on the side so the water doesn’t get out and damage the walls and trim.

Just my $.02: I'm with Brandon (and @David Faulkner above) on this one.With Real Estate, the one thing you can't paint, carpet, trim, or rehab out of the property, is location.

Needs a complete rehab inside including repipe, floors, 2 baths, kitchen, AC, trim and doors.

Paint color, trim, blinds, outlets and outlet covers, the flow of the unit,etc.

I found out that I had to remove all the trim and moldings around the windows and doors and caulked and used Great Stuff to fill in all the holes.  

When I worked as a construction manager for a homebuilder several years ago, we ordered the lumber, windows, doors, stairs/railings, garage doors, trim, cabinets, lighting, appliances, vanities, floors, paint, and other finishes.   

Might be costly, but you could do some stone veneer around the entrances and then paint the rest of the building and trim in complimenting colors.
