They were putting really inexpensive carbon-zinc "Heavy Duty" AAs in it, instead of alkalines, so I put a couple of fresh alkalines in it, and gave them a few more to be used if needed. 

In addition, there was a hamster/rodent box in the garage (We have a no animal/pet clause), she had sealed up the vent opening under the side garage door that is there to prevent carbon monoxide poisoning from the gas water heater/gas heater/blower and the gas dryer that all reside in the garage and the last thing is she had put cardboard covering in the garage door windows and the side garage window to the block sun from coming in.I am told the gentleman that is staying in the garage is the boyfriend of one of the daughters that is a tenant. 

Tenant shall inspect all batteries in the smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors on a monthly basis and replace them as often as needed.

I think of having a smaller carbon footprint by not relying on a car to get where I need, or sharing resources and infrastructure from a central network.

The problem comes in if you are the person who worked on the furnace and the error resulted in carbon monoxide poisoning and killing someone you cannot prevent liability by any of the methods discussed here as the law is made to hold folks personally accountable for things they do personally.
