The FHA, to date, includes seven protected classes: race, color, religion, national origin, sex, disability, and familial status.

To answer your question: in theory, you can rent any place for any amount you want and can disqualify people for any reason so long as it's not a protected class (race, religion, etc).

As long as you are correctly informing your custodian and they are preparing your IRA reports accurately, the rest is just interesting cocktail conversation like religion and politics where everyone has an opinion and few people change their minds. 

Source of income is just like any of the other protected classes...race, religion, familial status, ethnicity etc.

Dont think its about religion at all.

If not, you may even be setting yourself up for possible fair housing violations if the other tenant is a different race/gender/religion etc.

I know you can't discriminate against race, religion, sex, handicap, LGBT, emotional support and service animals, now they are adding co-signers, lol. 

The federal government and state of Colorado have numerous rules and laws to protect tenants and home buyers from being discriminated against.Here's a description of the Fair Housing Act from HUD's website: "...as amended, prohibits discrimination in the sale, rental, and financing of dwellings, and in other housing-related transactions, based on race, color, national origin, religion, sex, familial status (including children under the age of 18 living with parents or legal custodians, pregnant women, and people securing custody of children under the age of 18), and disability."
