The best color by far is NO stain color.

When my son was stained there it was a hell of a time when it came to him looking for off base housing that would work.

I sand, stain and urethane all the wood. 

I would recommend not providing white towels for your guests due to make up stains.

It actually gave me a headache to use until it dried but it did get rid of all the odor and stains.

@Pete PerezIt's an espresso stained wide-plank engineered hardwood.  

There are hollow core doors throughout the property, and I don't believe there was a single one without a hole in it of some sort, plus damage to drywall, carpet stains, missing vent covers, the list goes on.  

I've also had a couple of nightmare tenants that stained the rugs in a one year lease, that required me to replace after one year.

Replace damaged Exterior wood $1,00 , Plumbing/water supply NOT functional $400 ,  Paint/stain Exterior AS NEEDED  $300,  Repair Damaged Ceiling/Walls $400, Replace missing Flooring  $2,000 , Replace Hot Water Heater $800,  10% cushion $490 .....

One trick I have used to get the scuffs out is a color match stain stick.
