The building isn't the safest and I have had gangs/drug dealers make threats in the past but I don't carry a gun or any other type of weapon when visiting the property.

If you don't close you not only would lose your deposit, but you could face the possibility of being held in contempt of court.Because condo values have tanked recently, be sure and check the recent comps at least on Zillow, Trulia, Cyber Homes, NETRonline, etc. because the Sheriff's appraisers tend to be drive by "windshield" appraisals, and you can easily overpay based on their appraisal.
