Determined to learn more about real estate and how I can access financial freedom through investing with business intentions (not just a few SFR units - I want an army, dang it!).

My husband was a renovation contractor at Walter Reed Army Medical Center for several years. 

I was an air traffic controller in the Army, bearings, azimuth and back azimuths are basic, same with pilots (I believe like yourself) even those who become disoriented (lost) LOL.

I left the Army in February for the corporate world. 

Later he imagines "..An early 17th century noble, hearing marauding armies approaching his manor, could remove his paintings from their frames, stow the canvasses in a sack, put his gold in a pouch, and ride away with both in tow.

My first thought is if they don't need you in the office then they can just offshore your job to an H1B Indian.

No offense against Army brethren here, but generally speaking, they are going to be a lower class tenant than Air Force.
