I sent a notice to all of them that anything  in the basement or stairways may be thrown away without notice.

Also when looking at units we try to invest in buildings that have the most popular number of bedrooms for our market. (2 bedroom apartments are very popular here.)People tend not to like stairways that are hard to move stuff up, bedrooms that you must walk through to get to other bedrooms (railroad style) and run down apartments.Hope this helps!

if you plan to exit by selling it as a SFR definitely put in the interior stairway. 

When I opened thefront door to the main entrance containing the grand stairway, there was a two storywaterfall cascading down the stairs.

All of the carpeting has been pulled up like most REO's and HUD's, and surprising all of the floors are hardwood and only need wax, including the stairway.

The loft has a separate door in the stairway so it is not connected to the upper unit (although the current tenants in the upper are the ones who have access to this loft).

To bugs, and critters, drug dealers who when they moved, dismantle the stairway leading up to the bedrooms, because the stairs is where they stashed  their stuff. 

(at present, the front hall is open, each "unit" has a separate locked door, stairway is open). 3.

The upper could be sealed off from the bottom and an exterior stairway added and likely get $400 for the upper after being rehabbed.Thoughts?
