It was quite a bit of work to get that figure so after figuring out 2 weeks, I got distracted and never came back to it.

Distracting yourself with flips and what not is not only risking your capital but also a huge opportunity cost to your career.

(i was like you, interested in shinny objects and got distracted with the stock market... looking back I would have been much better off staying focused on RE) If you can't loose the idea of hitting the stock market, check out "The Disciplined Investor" by Andrew Horowitz and "If it Rains in Brazil, Buy Starbucks" by Peter Navarro (lol Peter is working at the White-house now.

I'd say this: if you have the time, it isn't a distraction from more important things, and you can do better than break even every year, then why not.

There is so much distraction in our industry that it can oftentimes handcuff us if we let it.

And while under current circumstances the level of distraction of kids and dogs and other people is ok,  in the long term it isn't what employers want or will be willing to see.

Ive also seen some motion sensors that just blast a really loud siren when sensing motion and if I tell the neighbors to call the police if they hear it, that can cause a distraction enough to make people leave? 

This may sound silly and like a distraction to whats important but study about water in relation to maintaining houses /property.
