Specifically look for a service that provide CASS (coding accuracy support system) address correction and DPV (delivery point validation), many also provide NCOA (change of address).

Send it certified mail so you have proof of delivery & if it comes back, too bad. 

For appliances you can just notify them you want to replace their stove etc. and when to expect delivery.
