Even things like paper towels they used for cleaning, an empty trash can, etc.Did not empty and wipe out all cupboards and cabinetsDid not clean appliances - this means taking shelves out of your fridge and washing them, scrubbing the stove top clean, cleaning the oven, cleaning inside the microwave, etc.

If it truly needed an upgrade to be a functional kitchen I would do the minimum while they were there and move the fridge to the garage so they could keep their food.

I don't know the cost of your fridge, but my CPA would simply expense it.The funny story is a rehabbed a house, bought appliances in a refrigerator, hot water tank and depreciated the entire rehab over 27.5 years.
