One suggested using spray foam on the underside of the attic walls (roof) and the other suggested blowing in cellulose over the floorboards of the attic.

@Justin Fox - you need to exercise caution with spraying {closed cell} foam directly on the underside of the roof deck as you can both prevent the roof deck from drying (insufficient ventilation) and cause condensation within the roof assembly itself ... leading to premature failure of the roof assembly.

My floor assemblies often call for floor toppings like gypcrete or lightweight concrete, as well as resilient metal channels on the underside of the joists which act to isolate the joists from the sheetrock below.

If you put insul between the beams you need an inch clear space at the underside of the deck for ventilation.
