That’s a big mistake and to not grant an exception is nuts. 

Knowing which subs go deer hunting , fishing , will or wont work weekends , which ones are tied up on longer jobs , etc .

I always asked first, and never had a landlord refuse.It drove me nuts that I had no idea how many copies of the keys to my current front door were floating around in the world.

If you do decide to allow an inspection, just keep an eye out for a few things: make sure they’re serious about the purchase and not just fishing for information, and try to get a sense of their intent.
