My father and I just paid cash for a little less than a 2 acre lot in Summersville, WV.

HI, I own a part share of a nice recently renovated house in North London, with other members of my family owning the rest, left to me in my fathers estate, with probate granted in 1999, as a tenant in common.

My father is a certified contractor in NJ—he’s built one home, flipped four, and consistently handles upgrades and maintenance for me and his other clients.I’d appreciate any tips or stories from those who’ve turned equity into a profitable venture.

Can't say much about upstate NY except my father grew up in Albany and attended Syracuse University.

I will apply the "life lesson" that my future Father-in-law gave me before marrying his daughter:"Simon, marriage is the hardest job you will ever have.

I bought my first property for $107,500 put 10% down borrowed 80% LTV from Wells Fargo at 11.75% rate and my father lent me the last 10% and charged me interest the same as Wells Fargo did 11.75%.  

Part of this is sentimental value (wife's grand father built the house) but I don't want it to be a money loser. 

I'm looking for advice on whether I should purchase my father-in-law's 6 unit apartment in Burien, WA (10 minutes south of Seattle) as my first deal, or perhaps help find him a seller that would pay more than I could and is a couple years ahead of me in REI. 

Since 2020 I have doubled my salary, moved into an apartment with my father to save rent, and was able to save over $150k cash towards an investment.  

But I found out my neighbor who moved out to help her father, is planing to rent her place next door to me.
