I currently rent and love my job in Disability Insurance Operations (and the Maine Army National Guard) but am looking to create a more financially successful present and future.I have read Gary Keller's Millionaire Real Estate Investor and the site's very own, Brandon Turner's, The Book On Rental Property Investing.So far I've gotten a pre-approval letter and a realtor.

I make a bit more money than the average person because of disability benefits coming it and I CHOOSE to use that money initially to create asset protection.

If you are a veteran and live in cook country and have a disability rating over 70% you are exempt from property taxes look it up on the cook county web site lower then that then they take of a certain percentage of your taxes.

Business entity - probably LLC - with a well written operating agreement that governs each parties' rights and obligations, management authority, spells out how money is spent and distributed, dictates how decisions are made and what type of consent is necessary for different types of decisions, includes buy-sell provisions in the event of a dispute, death, divorce or disability, etc. etc. etc. if you decide to own it individually as tenants in common, you need a property management and ownership agreement that addresses similar issues outlined above.

I have been advised that medical marijuana use is not considered a reasonable accommodation under the ADA and HUD has issued several memoranda stating that its use is not allowed (even by disabled tenants using it for medical purposes) but that public housing property managers are not required to evict for infractions.So, I guess you can have it both ways.
