.- maxing a 401k lowers your taxable income by 18k in 2015- a company match is significantly more when compounded tax free over 20+ years- index funds are about as passive as it gets- risk of a balanced boglehead index portfolio in a 401k is lower than buy-n-hold rei- "can't touch this", 401k is protected from creditors, lawsuits..just not divorce ;)I would never contribute anything less than the max to a 401k.

Credit score 760.No equity going into a house at the moment- but have the cheapest rent possible in your area.Two biggest contenders in my mind at the moment: Dump all profits into index funds utilizing some IRA/401k contributions for extra benefit OR Save up enough to begin flipping houses- still do 401k to at least matching levelNote: not working a 9-5 job, work all your own hours only have to attend 2 meetings/wk 2 hrs eachYour job is already incredibly rewarding so you are willing to take on extra bs/work in order to compound your savings over time.

There always seems to be debate about investing early to capitalize on compounding interest vs paying off debt ASAP.I have a significant student loan debt but my wife and I have been able to put ourselves in position to pay it off in a little over a year from now (using about 50-60% of our combined incomes to pay down loans).I don’t have a job that matches in a 401k, but I have a Roth IRA.
