All around, a disappointing experience that has caused tons of stress. 

You can contest the charges, I'd call and talk to the management. tell them your disappointed in the excessive charge, that the photo's you have of the carpet show it in good condition. and your prepared to take further action if they fail to return it.  

Enjoyed the post..Much to my wife's disappointment I picked up 3.8 acres for $22k at a Tax Lien auction.

He is a good friend and I'm more disappointed in him that he selected a property without doing all of his research on STR regulations in the area before pulling the trigger, but I wanted to at least tell him I checked around even though i knew it was a far-out there argument from the very beginning. 

We were recently beaten out on a great candidate RE that I was disappointed we lost out on, but with the current uncertainty I am less disappointed. 

Like anything else, pay for the right one and the rewards come but if you pay for the wrong one, you will be disappointed to some degree.  

Owners who bought in 2021/2022 basing their estimates off of COVID time occupancy have been sorely disappointed in 2023. 2023 is essentially back to what it should be.

The neighborhood was specifically chosen because I was certain it would appreciate, and it has not disappointed. 

I don't know how to do the @somebody replies but I thank everyone for the info.Chris K, I admit I'm a little disappointed that floor imperfections will telegraph through the flooring.

@J Scott I'm impressed, you did a complete build during the same time it took us to complete a full bathroom and kitchen renovation {actually moved the kitchen and bathroom within the unit} and two "back to the studs" rehabs ... we actually finished two weeks ago (though we were a disappointing 10-days late on the last rehab - post mortem is underway), but for a while there I thought you were going to finish first. :-)
