In my case with this 1920s house, it's going to prevent opening up the 1st floor, due to sitting between the wall separating the living room, and dining room.If it was on an exterior wall, I would still want to frame it in and make use of the space.

The unit is large and sunny with a dining room and deck and is about 1,100sf.

When ripping up the carpet we found wood floors in living room, bedrooms, hallways and dining rooms.

Made the room look better and returned closet functionality back to the hallway.Removed walls to open up the living room, dining room and entry way.Added pantry to kitchen in order to add more functionality and make the room more square shaped. 

That takes care of monitor & computer all in one, and if space is really at a premium you can use the dining room or kitchen table as your office desk - which I did for many years, only recently finally dedicating an office in the house.3.
