Personally, I'd always splurge for flooring and not a new fad color - just a nice traditional color hardwood-style flooring (laminate is fine).

For five to ten bucks you can get a great design in the format of your choice.I've heard of others, like 99Designs.com, but have not used them yet.My best recommendation is to splurge and have two or three different providers take their best shot, then you choose your favorite from among them.

Thanks for new insights and options Mohit and Amy...we got used to spending so much on vacation and eating out and all splurges...overspending our budget..until I got injured at work last year and herniated my disc..I was out for a while...unsure if I can get my life back.It was a big wake up call for me.Now I would like to put every single cent that I'm gonna make in REI..I know it's not too late.
