We usually have a "special guest" or "speaker" who will guide a brief lecture on a specific topic that they are hyper experienced in before opening it up to a free Q + A and eventually open networking time.  

Read books, attend classes/lectures, join and participate in a REIA. 

I attended the free sales pitch lecture this past week in Detroit and left without signing up.

Networking, following industry blogs and social media, attending lectures and courses, and even working alongside more experienced investors are all great ways to stay on top of changes that impact how you run your business.

If your money is sitting around and mine is helping me save on mortgage interest, I really don't need a lecture on opportunity costs, I guess that's all I'm saying.

From being a Lector (reading Scripture) in church to giving lectures on wildlife photography and cardiology equipment in front of entire auditoriums.Probably the most important suggestion I have is to be very prepared.  

Really good lecture uploaded from Naval War College on YouTube on Sea Level Rise, focused mainly on relevance to U.S., well worth watching, especially if you invest on the east coast.  

I do find it unfortunate though that "conferences" and lectures by gurus ruin the image of real estate gatherings. 

We just went to Than Merrill's free lecture and have signed up for the three day course in April.
