If "the state of mind of the general public" thinks that harvesting berries and fruits will get them through very bad economic times then they truly deserve the sobriquet "sheeple".I'm saddened that the majority probably do think along those lines, but not shocked.

But if you believe that eventually, your property will appreciate (And based on your zero vacancy so far, it is presumably in high demand area) holding on to it may not be a bad idea and since you are young, you can harvest those fruits later on in life.
