You've always got to start there and then reverse engineer into the business platform you leverage.

My guidance is always to first determine your exit strategy and then reverse engineer into the resources you need, and the platform that provides them, in order to achieve your goal. 

If considering a purchase, a structural engineer should be the first person to call.
