lost relative to inflation aka YOUR BILLION DOLLARS should've generated a stronger return. the investment itself, while losing relative to inflation, still has netted you 10 million dollars. could you find a better investment for a billion dollars, sure, rather easily I would guess.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that the big boys with billions in capital and decades of experience can't pull it off, but not a newbie ... and there are plenty of examples of the big boys falling flat via the same risks when trying to expand.
