Reminds me of the counter culture nonsense spouted in the late 60's.

I had lived out of the US for over 2 decades with that same type of mentality in that culture.  

I think it has a lot more to do with differences in infrastructure and culture.

It has amazing food, outdoors, and culture.- Asheville is a part of the rising tide in the "Charlotte" metro which is third fastest growing in the country. https://www.biggerpockets.com/...- Asheville has a relatively stable and temperate climate which means it is a haven when extreme weather happens.- Growing job market as more corporations hop on the Asheville band wagon.

I absolutely love the wide variety of cultural restaurants we have, and am currently enjoying dance lessons with incredibly fun people who were complete strangers just a couple months ago. 

Actually, I'm full of ouzo right now and love everybody, even kids brainwashed into this re get rich quick culture, and, I'm in love with the Greek Orpheus dancers ... happy investing and happy ouzo, opa!!!!!

It's also near a community that I have a cultural connection with.

As the world continues to shift away from the agrarian, small-community-focussed culture of the 18th, 19th and 20th centuries, cities such as Charlotte and Atlanta will reap the benefits from positioning themselves as the center of the modern economy.
