The way you described the space is hard for me to visualize it.  

However, I know that just a visual inspection does not necessarily give you the whole picture. 

In your experience are there parts of town where that is more or less likely to be a deterrent to potential renters?

What do you visualize your "ideal" life being and what you need to make that happen?

They won't have the same visual presentation but it won't kill you.

Since spec building has the deterrent of a perceived higher barrier to entry, these newer investors don't pursue it.  

Have you tried going on to Sherman Williams Paint and trying out the color visualizer?

I would also recommend more picture of homes and and real estate type things in general. http://www.tumbleweedhouses.com is a decent example of a site that uses visuals well.

Tenants want to be able to visualize living there.
