You say you want to bring people down to earth as justification for your negativity but you really don’t understand the culture of BiggerPockets.Are you even a real estate investor or did you just find this site and want to spout off your opinions like any other fool on social media?

Hey @Jeff Kehl you’re right, Hawaii is maybe the best place on earth for vacation rentals, but it comes with some stipulations.

We had to take boats out there and it was just the coolest place on earth.

Hi George P, Rosendo, First according to Uniform Building Code(U.B.C.) an you can not splice a structural member as you did,that would not pass here in California, the splicing material must go beyond the point of splice 2 feet on both sides of cut/ butt joint, it must be able to take the  down force of the  building, earth movement and wind shear,  the best way is to splice the stud onto the bad stud and nail off into the existing damaged stud 16D sinker nails 2 at top and bottom and stitch the two stud together, toe nail in place with 8D sinkers, have you ID the reason for the damage?

But after 28 years, with a front row seat of the Greatest Show on Earth, I'm not so sure... 

Plenty of hispanics are documented and still barely speak English. either way it's more prudent to find a good salt-of-the-earth hardworking immigrant family, do a hard series of checks on them and rent to those.

Then one thing also that is missed on this real estate site.. is having the moving map Google earth in real time in your car is super cool.
