Covid hit family rentals hard; many landlords are still waiting for their day in eviction court, or have properties that are completely wrecked after nonperforming tenants vacated.

I definitely think with your age and the money you have, I would look into a vacation type area that has STRs.

We decided to make a mini-working-vacation out of it and grabbed a STR outside of Blue Ridge.

Not bad... weekend vacation money.But here are some of the things that can disrupt that. 

We cater to us older folk that didn't grow up with all these subscriptions and when they go on vacation they want to press a button and tell the remote what channel they want😄 We have big smart TV's that they love and if inclined can use a subscription, but then they have to figure out how to sign out of them.

They also inform me that the Water District is planning to force me to vacate, and remove my sewer line off their property.

Plus a free vacation to Hawaii every 3 years in bonus points is a huge bonus. 

HI Vince, as long as you are vacating your current primary home and moving into a new primary that is acceptable, but just make sure you obtain a 12 month lease in order to use the rental income to offset your mortgage payment and not getting hit twice for your current mortgage and new mortgage.

From what I’m seeing, people are still traveling and making plans, especially for vacation rentals in desirable areas.
