After visiting these States, I just didn't see the benefit of investing in $200,000 in a B- class neighborhood in Ohio, which is a 5 hour flight away, when I could maybe invest a similar amount  in the California Central Valley in a C class neighborhood that I could drive to when needed.

By last night and early this morning, I did suggest that they evacuate but that they could stay if they didn't have any other options (surge is my main concern, we are on the 18th floor so I don't think they will have an issue with that and we have Miami/Dade qualified hurricane protection)...BUT, I was very forthright that they would likely be without water and electricity and stuck on the 18th floor possible for some time.

More than half of banana imports, America’s most popular fruit by volume, comes in through the ports being struck as of Tuesday morning, according to the American Farm Bureau Federation.Other items I have read that are at risk are: cherries, cocoa, sugar, imported wine, beer and hard liquor.In the spirit of the strike impacting more than just materials and labor directly correlated to real estate, I intentionally posted this in "Off Topic" as I want to get a better understanding of what your concerns are with an ongoing strike.
