When I was in college(only a few years ago) I had several internship opporunities out of town and when I was considering internships in Houston, Dallas, New Orleans and elsewhere, I found places to lease for the summer on Craigslist.

You can usually tell responsibility from the ranking of schools, major, grades, internships, etc.

Last year I did an internship knocking doors selling home security, which was rough to say the least, but has built more of a thick skin on me.

The thing that is necessary is the knowledge and you can gain that through a internship, partnering, Bigger Pockets. 

A CPA is a degreed accountant with an internship and passes a very difficult 7 part ( I believe) examination, it's not taken in one day.

Some hospitals keep a list on hand for workers coming in for extended stays of less than a year.When I lived in Seattle in the 1980s I rented a four bedroom house and sublet one of the rooms to medical school students who came from other states to do 3-month externship/internships.

I anticipate getting an internship in Chicago my junior year summer and then getting a return offer - hence why I'd end up in Chicago.
