I do think that having a contractor give you quotes is MUCH better, but often not completely practical or ideal either.

You can request a lien waiver from the GC, but you should ideally get a lien waiver from all subcontractors who worked on your project because each of them have the right to put a lien against the property if they weren’t paid for the completed work.
