@Cassandra Alessio  not only can a condo HOA cost you money and cause you headaches, but in some cases, they may ban you entirely from renting your condo--in which case, your whole plan goes up in flames.In my area, it's fairly common for condo HOAs to forbid leasing any of the condo units....So, you'll want to be very certain about the HOA's policies on renting, and also get a good sense about whether their policies could change.

@Jay Gray many towns ban them except in certain areas or parks.

I just found out why my messaging all the sudden got banned.

I found that land ownership was tricky in many countries, with foreign nationals being banned from property ownership outright in a few locations.

Lake Berryessa has good prices but a ban on short term rentals (as does all of Napa County minus a few licenses available in the city of Napa). 

I definitely am in support of cities doing licensing and collecting taxes compared to banning, restricting, and doing everything possible to disrupt the market.

What happens if a market has a thriving short term rental market but then the local politicians decide to ban short term rentals in the area? 

I'd be really surprised if they actually banned them, but you never know.
