It's a hassle sometimes but I try to keep a spare set in storage at all times so it's no big deal.

You can build the skills on the cheap and build a broader network in your spare time, both locally and internationally. 

Most would say no don't purchase the buy down but if you have cash to spare and it won't affect other parts of your life I'd say do it!

Plus you get all the tax benefits as well, which you don't get for rent.I bought a 2/2 condo 5 years ago and have generally had the spare room rented constantly. 

I don't think I have that much spare cash around.
